McDonald, Betty Anne
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Anne McDonald of Waverley on Saturday April 11th, 2015. Betty Anne passed away peacefully in the Victoria General Hospital in her 77th year. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Faye Elmo and Kathleen (Judge) Miller of Waverley. After graduating from Miss Murphy’s Business College and prior to starting her own family, Betty Anne worked as an administrator for General Motors Acceptance Corporation, A.J. Bell & Grant Insurance Company and Nova Scotia Building Supplies Limited. She enjoyed her work but more importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her home was a gathering place for many as Betty Anne loved being surrounded by company and all the activity generated, even in her final days in hospital. She and Paul loved camping where they once again surrounded themselves with family, good food, good friends and a lot of laughs. Betty Anne always had time to lend an ear and enjoyed sharing her life with those around her especially with her very close and loyal friend, ‘Pappy’. Without a doubt Betty Anne's love of her grandchildren was a pillar of her long and meaningful life. Between birthdays and seasonal celebrations, they gave her life extra meaning. She will be greatly missed by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Paul, their four children, Randy (Shelley) Waverley, Peter (Dawn) Fall River, Mary Jane (Joe) Antigonish and Bill (Heather) Fall River and her seven grandchildren, Scott, Olivia, Cameron, Cooper, Rachael, Hannah and Regan and her `best friend forever`, Pappy, who `tucked her in` one last time. She is predeceased by her parents, brother, Kenny, sister, Joan and sister, Barbara Jean in infancy. Betty Anne also leaves behind five siblings, Bud (Rena) Waverley; Bev Bowser (the late Glen) Fall River; Wanda Dickie (Ron), Meaghers Grant; Aubrey (Betty) Fall River; Brian (Bev), Waverley as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all those who supported her over the past three years and in particular the past four weeks. With your constant supply of food, cards, personal care, kind thoughts and prayers, any burden in her final journey was lifted due to your generosity. Someone recently commented ``I want your shoes when you`re gone``. It was her outlook in life that kept her shoes moving even in her final days. There are too many of you to mention but we need to send special thanks to Bernie & Madeline for the continuous supply of meals over the past three years, the palliative care doctors and nurses at the VG on 7A, all the staff and nurses at the VG on 5A, the VON, especially Angie McKenna, Northwood Home Care and her palliative care `home` nurse Barb Stewart. - "love you much more". At Betty Anne’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place, a celebration of her life will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday April 16th, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Fall River. A reception will immediately follow the service at the back of the church. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Palliative Care Foundation at the VG Hospital, Attention: Jill Flynn or a charity of your choice.
