Of Lower Sackville, passed away at home after a brief illness, with his loving family by his side on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the age of 71. Brian was the beloved husband for over 45 years to the late Karen May, loving father of Lori (Doug Longley), Andrew (Cheryl), Matthew (Paula), and Gregory (Tracy Acker-Canning); devoted grandfather of Victoria (Mitch Cugnet), Ian and Amy Longley, Alex, Brendan, Ella, Will, Madeline, Miles, Logan and Quinn; great-grandfather of Riley Karen; dear brother of Earline (George Grant), Brian will be deeply missed by his nephew, nieces, and extended family. Predeceased by his parents Earl and Edna Canning and his brother Fred. Brain was a carpenter by trade for over 50 years, he created many beautiful pieces for his family and the community. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humour, strong work ethics and quiet demeanour. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 21 at 11 a.m. in Knox United Church, 567 Sackville Dr. Rev. Dr. Ross Bartlett officiating. For those wishing, donations to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia, the Royal Canadian Legion, Calais Branch 162, or to Knox United Church would be appreciated.
