<div itemprop="description"> <p> UPSHAW, Darrell &ldquo;Johnnie&rdquo; Charles, 63, of Lower Sackville passed away May 9th, 2012 at the QE II HSC, Infirmary Site in the arms of his devoted wife of 40 years, &nbsp;Palema. Born in Windsor he was the son of Ethel (Fairfax) &nbsp;Upshaw , Wolfville, and the late Marvon Upshaw.&nbsp; He was a marine electrician at the HMC Dockyards for 35 years, and was a member of IBEW. He had played hockey and enjoyed playing cards and pool with his friends. He was an avid sports fan and in fact played soccer, basketball, floor, ice and ground hockey for many years. &nbsp;Most of all he enjoyed relaxing and spending time with family and friends. Johnnie is survived by his wife Palema; daughter Michelle Joy, Lower Sackville; son Marvin (Laura), Lower Sackville; sisters Sheila Lopes , Halifax, Charlene (Leonard) Arthur, New Minas Valerie (Morton) Crawford, ON, Wanda Dixon, Lower Sackville Joy (Steven) Allen, Falmouth, NS, Cindy (Mitch) States, ON.; brothers Melvin &ldquo;Sonny&rdquo; (Jackie) Upshaw, Halifax Michael (Harvia), ON; grandchildren Jody Mara, Denico, Nyomah; special God son Tyler Jones Cutting;&nbsp; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Marvon and son Jody Darrell Upshaw. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 only in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive. The funeral service will be held Monday &nbsp;1 pm from Emmanuel Baptist church, Pockwock Road, Hammonds Plains, Rev. Dr. Lennett J. Anderson officiating. &nbsp;Burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Middle Sackville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of NS or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Special thanks to the staff of the Home Dialysis Unit and&nbsp; of course the various nursing units at the QE II Infirmary Site.
