Smith, David Bruce, Bedford. It is with great sadness and extremely heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dearly beloved son, brother and uncle on December 19, 2012 at the age of 45 at Little Lake Mush-a-Mush. David was born on December 28, 1966. He was the son of Bruce and Phoebe (Deveau) Smith, Bedford. He was a journeyman electrician, following in his father’s footsteps and was very proud of his work. David was so intelligent, full of life, laughter and always had a joke or two to share with his many friends and family. His jovial sense of humour and smile would light up any room that he entered. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and so enjoyed the many hunting trips and the stories shared with his hunting buddies and especially with Helen and his father. David loved all animals and was especially broken hearted when he had to say “Good-bye” to his beloved, faithful rabbit dog, “Skippy” this past Summer. This bothered him more than many of us will ever know. He would be deeply saddened by the passing of people who were important in his life and often internalized a lot of his emotions as a result. He loved to play horseshoes, washers and cards, especially “Chase the Ace” and 99’s with the “New Year’s” crowd at the lake. David was affectionately known to many of his friends as “Mr. Bedford” as everyone seemed to know “Smitty”. He loved to sing and performed Karaoke in many of the bars in the Bedford area. One of his trademark songs was “Funky Cold Medina”, which he sang with style. He loved music, especially Johnny Cash’s “Sunday Morning Coming Down”. Besides his grieving parents, David is survived by his heartbroken sister, Colleen; nephew, Connor; and his Aunt Beverley; Uncles Arnold and George; several cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home in Lower Sackville where the visitation will be 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, December 27th. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 28th which would have been David’s 46th birthday. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Donations in David’s memory may be made to SPCA, Feed Nova Scotia or Hope For Wildlife. On line condolences may be made by visiting www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
