Of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the age of 81. Born in Geraldton, ON, Don was the son of late Antti and Hanna Pitkanen of Finland. He was a civil engineering instructor at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, ON, as well as being an elementary school teacher in Toronto where he met his life partner of 56 years at the Finn Hall. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Irma; loving son Gregory; granddaughters Aura, Mira, Kaila and JingJing; sister Salme; brother-in-law Arnold Vesterback; nephews Brian, Rick (Shawn), Stephen; extended family in Finland and Canada. Predeceased by his daughter Dawn Cheryl; and nephew Ronnie Vesterback. A private Celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.
