<div itemprop="description">MUNROE, (nee Gillett) &ndash; Dorothy Joan (Kopulos)- 82 of Halifax, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, September 12th, 2013 in the VG Site, QE II, after a five month battle with breast and bone cancer. Born on May 18th, 1931 in St. John's, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Maxwell and Ada (Ackerman) Gillett. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Gerald Russell Munroe, son Glenn Roy Kopulos and daughter Terry-Marie (Munroe Goldring). Over the years, Dorothy was an avid curler and past member of CFB Curling Club. She enjoyed country music and knitting. In her younger years, she was a Sunday School teacher at George Street United Church, and a cook for Burry Heights Youth Camp in St. John&rsquo;s, Nfld. In later years, Dorothy looked forward and enjoyed going to work with Dr. Gerry McKean, Halifax. After retirement she spent many hours playing games and puzzles on the computer. She took great interest in supporting the Canadian Wildlife Society. She especially enjoyed hearing stories about her great grandchildren. Dorothy had a special bond with her grandchildren Christine and David, and especially looked forward to David&rsquo;s regular Saturday morning visits during her illness. Dorothy is survived by daughters Barbara (Morgan) Hinchey, St. John&rsquo;s Nfld, Janet (Alywn) Guittard, Phoenix, Arizona, Marjory (Kevin) Poirier, Halifax, Sharyn Layden, Gander, Nfld; sons, Frank (Cathy) Munroe, Halifax, George Kopulos (Patti) , Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Douglas (Judith) Gillett, Halifax, David (Marcella) Gillett, St. John&rsquo;s; one niece; three nephews along with great nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws Thelma and Elsie in Ontario; extended family, Ruth Haverstock, Frank Nixon and Michael Redmond. Special thanks to Dr. Ian Beaupre, Dr. David Bowes, Dr. Mike Biddulph, Dr. M. Kain; the Palliative Care team; staff on Units 8.4, QE II Site and 5A Vg Site, and especially Bev, Tina and nurse Debbie for the special care given to Dorothy, and their kindness and support given to all of us, her family. Also a thank you to Jeff Mailman for your kindness. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A private family interment will be held Monday, September 16th at Oakridge Memory Gardens.
