<div itemprop="description">Frank Benjamin Vaughan - 86 of Greenwood/Bedford/Parrsboro passed away Oct 16, 2015 at the Saint Vincent&rsquo;s Nursing Home in Halifax.<br />Born in Windsor, NS he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Greeno) Vaughan.<br />After a brief stint at the Halifax Dockyards he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1952 with his first posting in Winnipeg, Manitoba where his two children were born. During his military career he served in Quebec City, Ottawa, Ascension Island, Marville France, Greenwood NS, Lahr Germany and finally back to Greenwood where he retired from the military as a Warrant Officer in 1979. He loved playing hockey but a puck to the eye when in France blinded him in the left eye ending his playing career. Not able to stay away from the rink, he worked as a rink rat and coached minor hockey throughout his time in the military. He coached the 1972/73 Greenwood Bantam Bombers who won the Provincial &amp; Maritime Championships. In August 2009, the players organized a reunion in Greenwood and although Frank was in the clutches of Alzheimer&rsquo;s he truly enjoyed and cherished that event. He was a handyman all his life and built his house in Greenwood and helped his son, Danny, build his home. After his military career he partnered with his brother in law Eric Anderson and operated the Bedford Petrocan Gas &amp; Service Station until he retired for good in 1988.<br />Survived by his partner of 27 years Mary (Smith) Billsten, Parrsboro, NS<br />Daughter: Janat Olivastri, Oxford, Alabama <br />Son: Danny (Beverley) Vaughan, Aylesford Lake, NS<br />Grandchildren: Ryan, Jessica and Andrew<br />Great-Grandchild: Gavin <br />Predeceased by his wife of 33 years Eunice (Anderson) Vaughan and all siblings.<br />Cremation has taken place, a Memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday October 22nd at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Rev. Josh Trombley officiating. A private family interment will take place at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society or Saint Vincent&rsquo;s Nursing Home (a non Profit).
