Hazel Frances Walker
October 25, 1928 - March 17, 2015
Walker, Hazel Frances (Taylor) – 86, Lower Sackville. Sadly, we the family announce that Hazel passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Chegoggin, Yarmouth County, October 25, 1928, she was the elder daughter of the late William Harvey and Frances Enna (Robinson) Taylor. She completed training at the Victoria General Hospital of Nursing, graduating with her RN in 1953. She married Charles Walker of Halifax in 1954 and they enjoyed 56 years and eight children together before he predeceased her in 2011. A devoted wife and mother, Hazel later returned to nursing full-time at the Victoria General and Camp Hill Hospital sites and was an enthusiastic follower of VG Alumni news and events. With her husband Charles she was an owner-operator of Grand View Motel in Black Point, N.S. She is survived by: daughter Karen Walker; seven sons, Charles (Lindita), Arthur, James (Kelly), Peter, Edward (Lesley), William and Steven; grandchildren, Diana, Jennifer (Nick Stairs), Kevin, Charles, Matthew, Marc, Nicole and Brittany; 2 step-grandchildren Jessica and Connor Comeau; great-grandson Henry Stairs; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by sister Mildred Allen and brothers Robert and Harvey Taylor, she was the last member of her immediate family. She was a member of St. John Vianney Church, Lower Sackville. Visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, Sackville Drive, on Sunday, March 22, 2015, 3:00-6:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held in St. John Vianney Church on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. Private burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax, NS. We wish to thank the nurses and staff of Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, the VON, Halifax Infirmary Units 8.3 and 9Lane and Continuing Care Nova Scotia for their gentle care and support of our mother. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her dearly.
