KENNY, James (Jim) Lawrence, CD

Age 88, of Lower Sackville, formerly of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Friday November 14, 2014. Born in Sydney on September 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Calvin and Annie (Fahie) Kenny. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 52 years, Bertha “Bert” (McQuaid); sons James (Evelyn Morin), Kingston, Ont.; Paul (Lana), Hammonds Plains; daughter Lynn Kenny-Brown (Rob), Grand Lake; grandchildren Therese, Joe, Aarika, Shannon, Dylan, Emily, and Anna; brother George (Halifax); and the many nieces and nephews of the extended Kenny family. Predeceased by his parents; brothers Cecil, William, Bernard, Samuel, Harold, and Robert; and sisters Muriel and Kay. A veteran of the Second World War where he served in the army and later in the navy (on the HMCS Prince Robert), Jim had a 25-year career in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring with the rank of CPO 2. He subsequently became a social worker employed by the Department of Social Services in Bridgewater during the period 1971-91. In 2001, Jim and Bert left the house on King St. that they lovingly maintained for 30 years to move to Lower Sackville to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Jim also had a special connection with the family cottage located on the beach in Maximeville, PEI where he spent many hours doing his crossword puzzles while listening to the ocean. Jim was an excellent handyman and an avid gardener, with a special love for roses. Above all else, Jim treasured his immediate and extended family; he was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and loved the Kenny and McQuaid family gatherings. Arrangements are under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville where visitation will take place on Monday November 17 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday November 18 at 9:30 am at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 125 Metropolitan Ave, Lower Sackville. A second mass will be held on Tuesday November 18 at 2:00 pm at St. Francis Assisi Church, 118 Main St., Wolfville. Internment will take place in the St. Francis Assisi cemetery in Wolfville, NS. Donations in memory of Jim can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Beacon House (Lower Sackville), or the CNIB.
