Laura Frances Schultz
December 22, 1923 - August 30, 2015
SCHULTZ, (Smeltzer) Laura Frances, 91, Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully August 30, 2015 at the Magnolia Nursing Home, Enfield. Born in Lower Sackville, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Alice (Fader) Smeltzer. Laura was a direct descendant of one of the 6 founding families of Sackville. Many family artifacts are on display at the Fultz House. Laura played baseball in her younger years for the Sackville Shamrocks. She was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, hockey and curling with Dad. She spent all of her time as a loving mother raising her children, keeping house, playing 45's with friends, and treasured times spent at the family cottage in Stillwater, Guysborough County. The cottage was built in 1957, and to this day the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren continue to spend vacation time there. In later years she enjoyed travelling to British Colombia and Florida with her husband. Laura is survived by daughters, Marilyn Hurst (Laurie Hubley), Janice (Robert) Keating, and Louise Wamback, all of Sackville, son –in-law Wayne Wamback. grandchildren, Heather Hurst, Craig (Lyn) Hurst Alison (Perry) Kelly, Keith (Krista Matthews) Keating, Debbie (Greg) Bucci, Irving (Becky) Keating, David (Melissa) Keating, and Adam (Laura) Wamback. Great-grandchildren Daisy, Baron, and Ivy Hurst, Fionn and Lachlan Kelly, Abigayle and Addison Bucci, Teagan and Rory Keating, Jacob and Melina Keating and Eva Wamback. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Laura was predeceased by her husband Irving and daughter Brenda; brothers, Walter, Roy, Charlie and sister Shirley Fenerty and son-in-law Francis Hurst. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday September 14, 2015, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive from 2-4 and 7-9. The memorial service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, September 15th, at St. John the Evangelist Church, Old Sackville Road, Middle Sackville. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Family Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery after the reception. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church or the Breast Cancer Society.
