Oakley, Maria “Grace”- 86, Bedford N.S. It is with heavy hearts that we regretfully announce the sudden passing away of our mother “Grace” on Thursday, Sept. 15th, 2011 at home. Born July 1st, 1925 in Corner Brook, Nfld, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Amanda McKay. She is survived by her daughters Edna Hutt(Warren) Bedford, N.S.; Val Silvester(Dale) Lawrencetown, N.S.; Karen Bodkin(Wayne) Sechelt, B.C.; son Gerald Oakley(Edna) Pembroke Ont.; sisters Ethel Gale, McKay’s Nfld; Amy Snow, Corner Brook, Nfld; Lorna Hayward (Bern), Port Elgin, Ontario; 11 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband “Jerry”, son David; sister Stella, and brothers Ross and Ralph. She left McKay’s, Nfld; at the age of 17 to work in Halifax where she met her late husband “Jerry”. Club Road, Hatchet Lake was her home for many years and then she moved to Bedford in 2002. She was a hard-working and talented lady who enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting and playing cards. She could look at a craft and be able to go home and make it herself without any instructions based on her knowledge. She really enjoyed going to lunch and the Bingo. Everyday she looked forward to going to Bedford Place Mall to sit with all her friends who were so good to her. Lillian Woodworth was a “special friend” and a great support for mom, who, we know will miss her dearly. Thank you to Dr. Elena Swift for her great care and continued support. Visitation will take place Sunday, Sept. 18th from 2-5PM at the Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive in Lower Sackville and the Service will take place there Monday, Sept 19th @ 2:00pm with Rev.Arran Thorpe officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will take place at St. Timothy’s Cemetery in Prospect N.S. Donations in her name may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting the Sackville chapel at www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
