<div itemprop="description">The family of Margaret Bernardine (Bernie) (Cameron) MacNeil, of Beaverbank, NS, regret to announce her passing on October 20, 2016 at the TLC Unit, St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish. <br>Bernie was born March 17, 1936 and was the daughter of Alex and Mary Agnes (Aggie) Cameron, South Side Harbour. <br>Bernie received her Diploma for the School of Nursing at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, North Sydney, Nova Scotia on the 23rd of August 1957, which led to her life long career as a nurse. She was a nurse at various hospitals until she was hired with the Red Cross in Halifax. This allowed Bernie to do an extensive amount of traveling, which she loved. <br>Bernie loved to travel with Hector to Cape Breton with their camper, have a good feed of lobsters and a dram of scotch. <br>Bernie was known for her gracious generosity and for entertaining her family and friends with lots of food, drink and music usually Scotch or Newfoundland music. <br>Bernie was an adamant sports fan, she loved curling, and you knew never to call her during a game on TV. <br>One of Bernie’s favorite things was spending time and traveling with her sisters, aka “The Golden Girls;” Theresa, Gen and Belle (Sr. Alexia). They had many laughs and stories. They loved to tell the story of Bernie, Gen and Belle entering the United States illegally. <br>Bernie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Hector Joseph (2013), her brothers Owen, Donald, Charlie, Joe and her sisters Mary Florence (Florrie) (Neil)MacLean; Theresa (John G.) Haley; Sister Alexia (Belle) Cameron, two nephews Allan and Eddie Phillip Cameron. <br>Bernie is survived by her sister Gen (Jim Andy deceased) MacDonald, Fraser Mills, brothers, Johnny (Joan) Belleville, Ontario and Leo (Kaye) Harbour Centre; her sisters-in-law Peggy Cameron, Dianne Cameron-Chisholm, Antigonish and Shirley Cameron, Gatineau, PQ. She is survived by a countless amount of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews. Many cousins and friends, especially Corrine Burbine. <br>The family would like to thank her neighbor Al O’Quinn for keeping a watchful eye out for Bernie, To Dr. Copper and the palliative care team a huge thank you; to our “Fairy Godmother”, Dr. Michelle Murphy no words of gratitude could express how Bernie’s family feel. You are truly a remarkable person for all your compassion and care. To our “Angels of Mercy”, the incredible staff at the TLC Unit at St. Martha’s, thank you is not enough. You all went above and beyond the role of nurse/caregiver. You made Bernie’s family’s life so much easier. Bless each and every one of you. <br>Services have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Homes, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016, from 2-7pm. A funeral service will take place Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11 am, St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews, Nova Scotia, with a reception to follow at the St. Andrew’s Community Centre. <br> <br>Family Flowers Only, Donations can be made to Canadian Association for Community Living, Cathy’s Place, St. Martha’s Hospital or a Charity of Your Choice.
