Tracey Kathleen Meagher
October 26, 1970 - September 24, 2014
Meagher, Tracey Kathleen
Waverley
It is with deep sadness and profound sorrow that we announce that passing of Tracey Kathleen Meagher, age 43, of Waverley on September 24, 2014 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Halifax on October 26, 1970, she was the beloved daughter of Tony and Carol (Blackmore) Meagher of Waverley, much loved sister to Michael Meagher, and a cherished granddaughter, aunt, niece and friend. Tracey spent her childhood years in Waverley and received her early education at Waverley Elementary School and George P. Vanier Junior High. She graduated from Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford in 1989 and attended Dalhousie University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1993.
Throughout her life Tracey touched the lives of the many people she encountered, whether through school, work, her involvement in extracurricular activities or volunteering at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Center and Small Options Home in Halifax. Her childhood years were filled with cherished times with family and friends, Brownies, Girl Guides (where she received her ‘all round cord’), baseball, Cheema Aquatic Club and many happy times with parents and grandparents at their Lake Mush Mush cottage or Valley campground. She made lifelong friends wherever she went and will be remembered for the joy she brought to others, her caring and her kindness. She was a blessing and a true inspiration to those who had the good fortune to know her, often putting the feelings and needs of others ahead of herself. Tracey’s career choice was a reflection of her lifelong desire to contribute and care for others. She began her career as an Occupational Therapist at Waterford Health Sciences Center in St. John’s NL, providing mental health OT services to clients. Following her return to Nova Scotia she was employed for four years with Manulife Financial.
Despite her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis at a young age, and the pain and disability it brought to her life, she inspired others with her positive attitude, continuing to maintain close contact with family and friends, thanking them for the time they gave to her and giving back in whatever way she could. She always had a ready smile and a kind word for visitors and others she encountered and a genuine interest in their lives. She had a deep love for her family, which was the center of her life.
Besides her parents, Tracey is survived by a brother, Michael (Diana Landry and sons Derek and Gabriel) Beaver Bank, nephews; Nicholas Andrews, Sam and Simon Meagher, grandmother; Leonora Meagher, Bedford, uncles; Bruce Blackmore, Halifax, John (Liz) Meagher, Hammonds Plains, Ted Meagher, Beaver Bank, aunt, Suzzette (Ben) Pryde, Lower Sackville, cousins; Tony Blackmore, Tonya Blackmore (Jacqueline Parker), Troy Blackmore (Petra) (Olivia and Fisher Blackmore), Krista Meagher (Jeffrey Gillis) (Ella Gillis), Shawn Meagher and Adam Pryde (Godson). They, along with her friends and former coworkers, share many beautiful memories of her. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Herb and Jo Blackmore (Nan and Pop), paternal grandfather, Eric Meagher (Gaga) and a sister Kimberley who all rejoice in welcoming Tracey to her eternal home in heaven where there is no more sorrow, only joy.
Tracey’s family would like to thank the many exceptional people who extended support to both Tracey and her family and were so generous with their time and friendship. While the kindnesses of all are deeply appreciated, a special thank you to Archbishop Emeritus James Hayes for his unfailing support and prayers, to Gary Perks, her Manager at Manulife who showed such compassion and support to Tracey, to Tom and Paulette Innes who’s generous gift made Tracey’s life so much easier and to Billy (Grampy) Fraser for his many acts of kindness and friendship to Tracey over the years. Tracey would also want us to especially acknowledge and thank her many lifelong friends who continued to visit, support and share their families with her throughout her illness, including her BFF Karen Baldwin, special friends Jackie, Krista, Alex, Christine, Julie, Mike H, Mia and resident friend Melonie, friends from afar Kiki, Linda and Angelia, many friends from Newfoundland, and pen pal from the age of eleven Kelly from San Diego, California who visited with Tracey twice in Nova Scotia. Also, special thanks is extended to the workers at Ivany Place for their kindnesses to Tracey and for the care they provided, especially Dr. Mike Fleming and Dr. Jack Sommers, and to Travis, Elsie, Joanne, Tracey, Heidi, Elizabeth, Amy (OT), MJ, Melita, Jeanine, Allison and Arlene, volunteer worker Stephanie who faithfully visited with Tracey every Monday evening and to all the residents who became like family. We will never forget you.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Homes, Lower Sackville. Funeral Mass and celebration of Tracey’s life will take place on Monday, September 29 at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Fall River at 11 a.m. Reverend Father Duncan MacMaster officiating, reception to follow. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Sackville Chapel.
