<div itemprop="description">Simms, Mary Catherine Eva – Age 86, of Halifax, it is with great sadness to announce the passing of Mary (Boutilier) 1930-2017. Born in Windsor Junction, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Violet (Parnell) Boutilier. She is survived by her husband of over 64 yrs., Henry P. Simms; children, Joan (Ed), Debbie (Richard), Barbara (Peter), Mary (Bill), Phillip (Mary); siblings, Douglas, Vianne (Kenneth) and Carollyn (Robert); sisters-in-law, Doris and Doreen; grandchildren, Colleen, Peter, Jolene, Cody, Nick (Jen); great grandchildren, Rebecca, Sarah, Matthew, Megan, Kenneth, Lillian, Jacob, Mitchell, Mark, Madeline, Marissa, Marcel and Henry ; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mary was also predeceased by her son, David Allen, her twin sister, Margaret; sister, Lillian; brothers, Frank and Kenneth. Visitation will be held from 12 pm to the time of the memorial service at 1pm Saturday February 4th at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville a reception will follow the service. Reverend Kay Knott officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville. The family would like to thank the staff of 7.4 Halifax Infirmary, Closing the Gap and the VON. Family flowers only, donations in memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Scotia or Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. <br> <br>Mary was a graduated of the Chicago School of Nursing, April 10th, 1952 and worked as a Practical Nurse for the first few years after graduation and then starting raising her family. She returned to nursing later in life where she worked at the Glades Lodge nursing home and did private home care. She was active as a guide leader, Boots, of the Emmanuel Church troop. She travelled to Quebec City and PEI with the troop. She was a child care worker at the YMCA in the seventies. Once she became a grandmother, she dedicated herself to help raising her grandchildren and enjoyed playing card games and active adventures with the grandchildren. Once her husband retired they enjoyed there cottage in Beaver Harbor and invited all of their family to spend time fishing, hunting and game playing. Mary opened her door to door to many children, who just needed a kind word or hot meal and someone to listen to them. She made all feel welcome and supported many charities over the years. She was always giving of herself and never wanted anything.
