<div itemprop="description">Guy (Phillips), Ruth Gwendolyn - Age 96 of Halifax, and formerly of Sydney, Cape Breton passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Northwood Manor Ivany Place, Beford, N.S., after a brief illness. Born Feb. 21, 1920 in Halifax, N.S.she was the daughter of the late Levi and Annie (Smith) Phillips. During the Second World War, Ruth worked as an executive secretary for the leadership at Maritime Air Command in Halifax. She later moved to Sydney with her husband, Thomas Leonard Guy who died in 1983 after retiring from the Cape Breton Post after a 40-plus year career in the newspaper business. Ruth was a long-time member of St. Georges Anglican Church in Sydney and a member of the IODE Beinn Bhreagh Chapter. She also loved to play bridge. Survived by a daughter, Carol (Peter) of Ontario; a son, Murray (Jill) of Moncton, NB; a sister, Betty of Halifax; a brother Bill of Halifax; a granddaughter, Paige of Moncton, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very special friend, Ruth Cunningham. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother John Phillips. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A family graveside committal service will be held at a later date at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Middle Sackville. In lieu of flowers <br>Donations may be made to your local SPCA or the Special Olympics in your province. Arrangements are under the care of Atlantic Funeral Homes, Lower Sackville. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Ivany Place for their work and dedication to the residents they care for.</div>
