Noreen Agnes (Bollong) Bonn
June 15, 1945 - April 8, 2017
Noreen Agnes (Bollong) Bonn of Lr. Sackville, Nova Scotia passed away the morning of April 8, 2017, at the VG site with her husband by her side, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
The youngest of six children, Noreen was born on June 15, 1945 in Spry Harbour, Nova Scotia to Eileen (Hawes) and Leo Bollong. Noreen attended the Central Consolidated High School in Tangier and carried on to attend Miss Murphy’s Business College in Halifax, NS.
After graduating from Miss Murphy’s, Noreen was employed at Maritime Tel & Tel in Halifax, until she left the work force to raise a family. In 1966, Noreen married her best friend and soul mate, William (Bill) Bonn and together raised three children in Lr. Sackville, NS. Noreen later returned to the workforce and was employed by the Halifax Regional School Board for over thirty years as school administrator at Harry R. Hamilton Elementary School in Middle Sackville, Noreen loved working at the school, and was disappointed when health issues forced her into early retirement. She had many fond memories of the students and staff during her time at the school. After retirement, Noreen spent many hours researching the genealogy of her ancestors, from one end of the province to the next, with particular emphasis on the origin of her family name; Bollong.
Known lovingly as Nan to her grandchildren, and Aunt Reen to her many nieces and nephew’s, Noreen’s family and grandchildren were the centre of her life. Noreen enjoyed spending many hours knitting mittens for her grandchildren, and could be found at any ice rink, dance studio or, ball field throughout the Maritimes. Noreen’s greatest pleasure in life was her four grandchildren: Matthew, Cassidie, Renae, and Ryan. She took great delight in all their accomplishments, and spending time with them.
Noreen’s spirit is carried on by her husband of over 50 years, Bill Bonn, children; Virginia (Ginny), Donna (Jamie Boutilier), Philip (Nancy), fur babies; Bella and Willie, grandchildren; Matthew, Cassidie, Renae and Ryan, siblings; Glenn Bollong (Pat), Verna Butler, Janet Newcombe (Bernie); and many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention. Noreen was predeceased by her parents Eileen and Leo Bollong, parents-in-law; Pete and Susan Bonn, brothers; Joseph (infancy) and Billy Bollong, brother-in-law; Lawson Butler, and nephew; Billy Butler.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton, 125 Metropolitan Avenue, Lr. Sackville, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank all who cared for Noreen during her illness, and a special heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care team nurses, Lisa and Debbie, on floor 7A. Online condolences may be sent to www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Sackville Chapel.
